Lord, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Lord, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

I recently went to confession and my penance was to pray the Divine Mercy.  I knew of it and not that much. I learned that the Divine Mercy (a novena or sequence of prayers) was brought to us by Jesus through Sister Maria Faustina Kowalaka. I had been driven to read her diary for a while now and if you have seen it you might understand why I kept walking away. It’s huge. Meaning its the thickest book I have picked up maybe ever. However, this time, I chose to walk into the scary discomfort of taking on a book like this instead of running away.

Do you remember when the virus was at a high there were posts going around to put a copy of the “Jesus, I trust in You” cards or photographs on the exterior doors of your home?  Or, have you seen the a photo of Jesus with a red and white light coming from his heart?  That’s it.  If not, its on the cover of the book in the picture on this post. The posting of the Divine Mercy on doors was to symbolize the affirmation of the trust the family of the home has in Jesus and for protection.

I found out very early in Saint Faustina’s diary that Jesus directed her to have the Divine Mercy image created and that’s what you see today. Since that confession, I have studied mercy.  What is it?  Where have I been holding on and not offering mercy to those who have offended me?

I know that our Heavenly Father has already forgiven them and that the Son of Man has shed blood and water to redeem their sins.  Is not my holding also a sin?
Friends, today is the day or if you wanna get technical the remembrance of the day of our Lord’s ultimate sacrifice. His life. He was beaten, betrayed, abandoned and He fulfilled His purpose by surrendering it all. Imagine. I invite you to close your eyes and put yourself there at the cross.  What do you see?  What do you feel?  What do you want to do now?

For the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
